The owner of a US-based doughnut company is looking for master franchisees to expand the business in Australia. With 140 locations in six countries and a presence in 23 US states, Duck Donuts is already a household name.

When the Thai Duck Donuts opens in September, it will be the first in Asia for the 15-year-old franchise chain. The brand displayed its offerings at the recent Melbourne Franchising & Business Opportunities Expo.

According to Marcel Portmann, global franchise development executive, master franchisees must first build a minimum of five stores before they can sub-franchise. The brand is looking for people who have a proven track record of success in the business to help them get started.

Specifically, Marcel explained, “we’re looking for people who have or have had existing operations experience in a complementary brand.” For example, he said it’s a food company that could work together with a complementary one like a coffee shop.

The doughnuts are made from a vanilla cake base rather than yeast, and they are made fresh to order on the premises. Doughnuts are prepared and cooked in front of customers, and the finished product is then dipped in a topping.

According to Marcel, toppings can be tinkered with to meet market demand. North Carolina’s Outer Banks region is home to Duck, where the brand was born. The logo of Duck Donuts features a duck in a bathing suit, in keeping with the company’s beach-themed marketing strategy.

The financial return a Duck Donuts franchise owner can expect depends on various factors such as location, size, etc. On the other hand, your goal is to maintain service quality while keeping sales high and expenses low as a business owner. Rent/mortgage, staffing/family, inventory supplies, utilities, administrative costs, and so on may be included in any other franchise. The costs of the month may vary depending on location and season. Most franchises have fixed startup costs that cover most initial operating costs, such as signage, furniture, decoration, and renovations.

Duck Donuts takes pride in providing its customers with warm, delicious, and made-to-order donuts in a one-of-a-kind in-store experience. As we expand across the United States, we are looking for experienced franchisees who share our vision and commitment to providing a welcoming, family-friendly, and delicious experience.
